Deterrence

I decided to write my blog on deterrence. I recently visited a friend’s son who is currently in prison for the second time. The main goal of deterrence is to prevent actions thereby having some form of adverse consequences. After he first release, he did probation, community service and paid some fines. Nevertheless, he is back in prison.  He made it appear he was actually enjoying being there. I am not convinced deterrence works for all. There is no one size fit all concerning crime and punishment. In my opinion, his first experience in prison was not painful enough.
